Air conditioning

Cool in summer, warm in winter

We're now F Gas qualified, which means SWW can install, service and repair air conditioning alongside our usual plumbing and heating work. With Devon summers getting warmer year on year, more and more homes and businesses are fitting air con to stay comfortable, and a modern system does more than just cool.

Today's air conditioning units are heat pumps in their own right: they cool a room in summer and warm it in winter, efficiently and quietly. Whether it's one hot bedroom, a home office, a conservatory that bakes in July, or a shop or office that needs keeping comfortable for staff and customers, we'll advise on the right system and fit it properly.

F gas qualified

Air conditioning uses refrigerant gas. By law that has to be handled by an F-Gas qualified engineer, which we are.

Why fit air con

Comfort all year round

The right unit takes the edge off the hottest days and makes a bedroom sleepable in July. It will also warm a home office cheaply through the winter, which most people do not expect. Units are far quieter than they used to be and they filter the air as they run. We size it to the room so you are not paying for more than you need.

Common questions

Air conditioning FAQs

Does air conditioning heat as well as cool?

Yes, modern air con units are heat pumps, so they cool in summer and heat in winter. They're an efficient, cheap way to warm a room in the cooler months as well as keeping it cool in summer.

How much does air conditioning cost to install?

It depends on the system and how many rooms you want covered. We give you a fixed written quote after a free survey, so you know exactly where you stand before committing.

Are you qualified to install air conditioning?

Yes. Air conditioning uses refrigerant gas, which by law must be handled by an F Gas qualified engineer, a qualification we now hold, alongside being Gas Safe registered for gas work.

Can you fit air con in a house as well as a business?

Both. We install for homes, bedrooms, offices, conservatories and living spaces, as well as shops, offices and commercial premises across Exeter and Devon.

FAQs

Air conditioning FAQs

Does air conditioning heat as well as cool?

Yes. Modern units are heat pumps, so they cool in summer and heat in winter, often more cheaply than a plug-in electric heater because they move heat rather than burn fuel to make it.

Do I need planning permission?

In most homes no, as it usually falls under permitted development, but there are conditions on siting and noise, and listed buildings and some conservation areas differ. We will flag it if your property is one of the exceptions.

What does it cost to run?

Less than most people expect. A modern inverter unit only draws what it needs to hold the temperature, so running costs are modest, and in heating mode it is usually cheaper than electric heaters.

How long does installation take?

A single-room system is often a day. More rooms, or a longer pipe run between the indoor and outdoor units, takes longer. We are F-Gas qualified, which is a legal requirement for the refrigerant work.
